With years of experience behind them, some Phlebotomists have worked their way up to and enjoy the life of a Traveling Phlebotomist.
Traveling phlebotomist qualifications
When an organization needs to send a phlebotomist around the state or across the country, they hire a Traveling Phlebotomist.
These companies will have much more strict requirements then a regular phlebotomy job. For starters, you generally need to have at least 3 years of experience. You will most likely be working alone and the company must be confident that you know what you’re doing. There will not be anyone with you to help if you cannot find a vein. You also need to know how to complete a variety of forms and know what to do in different situations.
Next companies are looking for someone that is reliable. If you are sent out of state, there can be no worries that you will not show up for work. If you have to be somewhere at a certain time, you MUST be there.
After reliability is professionalism. When Phlebotek or it’s clients fly a phlebotomist to a job, we know that the phlebotomist will be friendly, confident and professional. You will be representing large medical companies and we want to put the best face forward.
A traveling phlebotomist can expect to visit new cities with hotels and food paid for, all while earning a very nice salary. You might spend days or weeks out of town and need to have a very flexible schedule.
The responsibility is much larger, but the pay and the lifestyle are worth it for some!
